There Will Be Blood

No, I haven't seen the movie, but I do think this should be the title of a parenting book.

Did Kate and I get in a fight yesterday? Well, it may appear that way, but no. However, there was blood and it scared me - that is for sure.

We were at a friend's house and her five year old boy decided to pick Kate up and walk her over to where his mom and I were talking. He made it a few feet and by the time we saw him and said, "Oh- let's put Kate down", he tripped and fell on top of her. Kate, on the other hand, not really having a clue what was going on, fell head first as well, taking the largest blow to her mouth and nose. There was blood. Quite a lot for my liking. Now that she is pulling up on things and moving around - we've had falls and cries, but not quite like this one. Sigh. I think the blood did me in and I would say I am usually a tough person. I can handle pain and blood. With my baby girl, though, it was different. Good to know.

She is OK now. Just had a nice sized lip for about 24 hours and we are back to normal...thankfully! Whew. No broken nose. Although I asked David every 5 minutes last night, "Are you sure her nose isn't swollen or a little discolored?"
"No, sweetheart, she is fine."
"OK. "
Repeat 5 minutes later.

No loose teeth.  She is eating well (just like her momma - nothing gets in the way of us and our food) One down...many, many more to go I am sure.

On a different note, for all of you weak stomachs out there, Kate is now doing the signs for "more" and "all done" and it is wonderful to know what she is needing/wanting around meal time. Such a beautiful thing. And, she is opening every cabinet drawer in sight and even some that aren't in sight. Scary.

The update I'm most proud to announce is that she is officially saying "Ma" over and over when she looks at me. We aren't in the double syllables yet, but I'm very thankful we have the sound out there and it's just a matter of time now. Dada came at like 6 months and Ma comes at a year. I'm still thankful. Who knew a little sound could mean so much?

Here's a picture Steph took up at my parents house in Colorado. It's such a glimpse into the future for me when Kate comes with a question related to a desire or a wish. I can just see it now with that little "popped" leg and her cell phone. "Mom, can I go to so-and-so's house?" Cute, baby girl. Very cute.

You did good not to freak out...that would be scary!!
I laughed at your description of Kate saying dada first. P did the same thing!! It was like his first word, and now he still hardly ever says mama...only when he is really upset! What is that about?
